Native American Songbird Scheduled to Sing National Anthem
March 23, 2011

After Christina Aguilera's slaughter of the National Anthem the TY Murray Invitational was cautious in selecting their next National Anthem singer for their sold out event.

If there is anything taken more seriously than the US flag, it's possibly the national anthem. The Star Spangled Banner is sung at just about every major American function, and at major sporting events a significant honor is bestowed on those asked to sing what is probably the best known national anthem in the world. Listen closely to the words and it tells of a highly emotional moment in US history when the war with the British was being fought and of one man's relief in seeing the US flag still flying after a vicious bombardment.

From the great Navajo Nation comes Victoria Blackie

Her Voice is "Powerful" with lots of soul, bringing back the feel that Patsy Cline,
Loretta Lynn and the greats have given to country music. Victoria may be a petite
5'1" but her voice is powerful and brings back to country music what thought to
be lost with the new breed of Pop Country singers. All the country greats might
be rolling in their graves but not when it comes to Victoria. Her voice is versatile
and has definitely caught the attention of the Indian Summer Festival in
Milwaukee where she swept the ISMA Music Awards. She is the recipient of two
awards in Best Country and Best Blues categories. Her "Wanted Man" album was
produced by LegendsHall Of Fame producer Robert Metzgar from Nashville,
Tennessee who is also a nominee as Best Producer in the NAMMYS.

Victoria Blackie "Remember America"
February 4, 2011 | Salt lake City, Utah

Remember America was composed by Marsha Borelli-Silva and has been recorded by several artists, however Victoria Blackie renders one of the most powerful and inspirational rendition of the song.

"America, Remember America?
That these brave men and women fought for you
On foreign shores to keep terror from your front door
Because of these, Our Flag still waves Red White and Blue"

Victoria pays tribute to veterans and to the thousands of men and women now serving our country. Her Grandfather member of the Navajo tribe, Arkie Dennison served this country proudly in 1941- when Japanese forces attack Pearl Harbor. He was a survivor. Two other family members now serve in Iraq and Afghanistan . It's no wonder that she sings this song with such passion.
